Dear Friends,

I would like to thank you all for your support of the Watts Village Theater Company?s (WVTC) mission to ?change the world one play at a time.?

A year ago the WVTC suffered the greatest setback in its 10 year history, our co-founding Artistic Director Quentin Drew lost a heroic battle with cancer. He was a close friend and mentor to all of the
Guillermo Avilés-Rodríguez
members of Watts Village. Before his passing however he made it clear that the vision of theater in Watts would live on and that his successor should have concrete ties to the community of Watts.

My name is Guillermo Avilés-Rodríguez and I am posting this letter to inform you that after more than three years of serving as The Watts Village Theater education coordinator, I have been offered and have accepted the artistic directorship of the Watts Village Theater Company.

I accepted this position with a real sense of honor at the opportunity to continue Watts Village Theater Company?s vision; I am confident that my background and education make me well suited for the culture and work demands of producing theater in Watts.

Quentin Drew
Being born in Martin Luther King Jr. Hospital and growing up in Watts, I understand the important roll the WVTC plays in bringing professional quality theater to the residents of Watts. I hold a BFA and MFA in theater. I was fortunate to have met Quentin before he co-founded the WVTC 10 years ago, and later was hand picked by him to be WVTC education coordinator. I am confident that I will thrive as artistic director and bring fresh ideas, motivation, and skills to our company.

For all of you who were blessed enough to know Quentin I look forward to building on the many relationships he established for our Company. I am keen to meet face-to-face with any and all of you who wish to become more involved in our work.
